Am I making enough money? This is the question that plagues every worker—from the hourly employee working the production line to the CEO of a major multinational company. Being fairly, and adequately, compensated for the contribution you give to your company is something every worker wants, but it can be tough to know if what you are making is enough. It was with this in mind that Nonwovens Industry decided to embark on its first-ever salary survey. This month we polled our entire database of nonwovens professionals to gauge their thoughts on their companies, their jobs and, most importantly, their salaries. The response was impressive, proving that this is something of paramount interest. So, if you want to know how much the typical worker in your field, in your age group or in your geographical region is bringing home, be sure to turn to our salary survey, which begins on page 58. In addition to salary trends, we polled nonwovens industry participants on their work climate, their perceptions of the nonwovens industry and what issues are facing their companies. Also, in this issue we present our annual look at the roofing and construction market, a focus on nanotechnology in nonwovens, a review of Techtextil 2006, a sneak preview of ANEX 2006 and the industry’s response to recently approved national legislation that will require all mattresses in the U.S. to pass an antiflammability test by next July. This legislation will not only save lives, it opens up doors for nonwovens in the bedding market. Nonwovens have the ability to offer flame resistance while allowing the mattress to maintain similar integrity as previous generation mattresses. Needless to say, many nonwovens manufacturers are extremely excited about the regulation. We hope you enjoy this issue of Nonwovens Industry. As always, we appreciate your comments.
